Bad boy

The Rockets may have left thier last preseaon game with a loss but the biggest news was Mutombo as he fired obscene gestures at a patron of the TD Waterhouse Center. Mutombo was held back from entering the stands, to confront the man yelling racial slurs at him, by Rockets trainer keith jones until the game official could get there. Mutombo is still very upset about this promising a more violent reaction if this were to happen again. I am not sure about you, but I would definitly not want a man Mutombo's size angry with me. The fan was escorted from the game. Lets hope he did not get a refund.

Rockets Enjoy the Fair

Well, at least they got to go to the Arkansas State Fairgrounds, and they must have enjoyed their 107-93 preseason victory over the Atlanta Hawks Friday night. I'm guessing the folks in Little Rock were a bit disappointed not to see Houston stars Yao Ming and Bonzi Wells, but at least they got to see how the game is played in the NBA.

The Rockets themselves got to see something, too. As columnist Damien Pierce points out, there was a silver lining to Yao's having to sit this one out. "Despite Houston's obvious desire to have Yao back from his toe injury, the Rockets might have stumbled upon a change of pace lineup to use when the big fella needs a breather." Interestingly, that change of pace included picking up the pace. Maybe we'll be watching some extra fast running this year. And being able to spread the action around the lineup a bit can't hurt.

bonzi moves to houston

The Rockets snagged Bonzi Wells today – he and the team signed a multi-year deal, taking the biggest remaining name off the free market. He is expected to provide much-needed depth to an injury-laden roster and to help make the Rockets a contender for the Western Conference title. This seems like a pretty legitimate possibility this time around, although the Rockets will most likely face pretty stiff competition from in-state rivals the Spurs and the Mavericks, not to mention from the Phoenix Suns. They will still have to bring the A-game.
